Relevant for all businesses with non-domestic installations supplied by a HV cabin.
What you need to know
Safe installation is not enough to rule out arc flash. Safe working practices and personal protective equipment appropriate to the energy level present are the key. Based on an Arc Flash study, Vinçotte (a member of the Kiwa group) creates a safer working environment. Such a study maps the energy released in HV cabins and LV switchboards.
As a result, we can carry out a better risk analysis (calculation) of your electrical installation or electrical work, and propose appropriate preventive measures in the form of personal protective equipment to minimize risks.
Benefits
An Arc Flash study offers the following advantages:
- Check the elimination times and breaking currents of electrical protection devices, and reduce them if necessary to achieve a reduction in energy consumption.
- Check the characteristics of existing electrical installations and assess whether or not this material needs to be replaced and/or whether other measures need to be taken to protect workers with additional personal protective equipment against arc flash.
- It provides guidance on the category of PPE (personal protective equipment) to be used for an electrical work situation and/or the distances to be maintained from the arc flash hazard.
- Workers can be given more specific information. Each table can be provided with a sticker indicating all the important parameters (working distances, PPE to be used at that location, etc.). This facilitates the establishment of work procedures.
- Workers can be informed in a more specific way. Each table can be provided with a thumbnail showing all the important parameters (working distances, PPE to be used at that location, etc.). This facilitates the establishment of work procedures.
