Since the foundation in 1948, Kiwa has grown into an internationally renowned testing, inspection and certification institute with offices throughout Europe and Asia. As a result of our worldwide relations with global clients, participation in international working groups and co-operations with other testing and certification institutes, we have developed a global network that is highly appreciated by our customers. This joint expertise can offer you various services regarding the certification of your products in various countries. For instance, we can be of service to you for mutual recognition of test reports in EU countries; approvals and testing specifically for the UK, Scandinavian countries and also Australia.
WELS is Australia's water efficiency labelling scheme that requires certain products to be registered and labelled for their water efficiency in accordance with the standard set under the national Water Efficiency Labeling and Standards Act 2005.

The WELS team is located within the Australian Environment Quality Division department. The scheme is developed with a classification system for water consumption usage. Further information about the WELS – scheme can be obtained on the site : https://www.waterrating.gov.au/
The test laboratory of the unit Drinking Water Installation is accredited according to ISO17025 and designated as a recognized laboratory for providing the test reports for the WELS - scheme according to Australian Standard AS/NZS 6400. The assessment is usually conducted in combination with testing for an Australian certification approval scheme, but can be requested individually.
Testing at Kiwa
To have your products tested for the Australian – New Zealand market is easy. You can request that the Kiwa laboratory handles the testing part of your application. Our laboratory is listed as a preferred laboratory at the following certification Institutes:
- Sai Global
- Global Mark
- Iapmo R&T Oceana
Once this is confirmed, all you need to do is to send us an email with your request.
We will then ask you to send us the required documentation (i.e. approval of sampling, testing programme confirmed by the certification institute, water mark certificates etc.). We are then able to present to you a cost and time estimate, based on the testing programme for the certification of your products through the Australian certification institute of your choice.
Our laboratory is recognized lab and is accredited according ISO17025 for conducting tests on behalf of Australian institutes. The Kiwa laboratory is one of the largest contributors of test reports in Europe for the approvals for Australian standards.
