Agricultural companies with the EKO quality mark stand for products that originate from organic agriculture and livestock farming. This means that no chemical pesticides, artificial fertilizers and genetically modified seeds have been used. Livestock growers with the EKO quality mark are required to work in an animal-friendly manner. In addition, the requirements of the EKO quality mark pay attention to topics such as: social and fair, biodiversity, soil, cycle, energy and climate, animal health, animal welfare and packaging.
For and by agricultural entrepreneurs
The EKO quality mark is for agricultural companies who want to demonstrate to the buyers of their products that they contribute to a healthier and more sustainable world, animal welfare and fair treatment of people. The EKO standards were initially drawn up by the organic sector itself. Their sustainability ambitions resulted in a realistic, sector-specific package of requirements that is kept up-to-date by the sector.
The EKO quality mark is intended for agricultural entrepreneurs who want to continuously work on making their company more sustainable and want to go beyond the current legal requirements. The EKO quality mark is applied throughout the chain in the organic sector, from farmer to shop and from trade and processing to the catering industry. Affiliated companies can distinguishthemselves on a company and product level. There are two different EKO programs, which include various modules.

Good for planet, animals and people
The EKO quality mark is one of the 10 top quality marks of Dutch environmental association Milieu Centraal. Central to the EKO quality mark is the concern for nature, climate and biodiversity. This is reflected, among other things, in the care for the health and comfort of animals. The EKO standards also contribute to fair treatment of everyone involved in the production and processing of products. EKO companies are completely transparent in this respect and interested parties can, if desired, see for themselves how things are done at an EKO-certified company.
