From 1 April 2024 only companies and mechanics which are certified according to the SERMI (Security Related Vehicle Repair and Maintenance Information) guideline are allowed to work on components and software related to vehicle security. Certification Independent Operator (IO)
Find out all about your certification if you, as a car, body repair or motorhome company, work on security-related parts of vehicles. To do so, you need to apply for at least a SERMI certificate for your company and one mechanic.
Certification Remote Service Supplier (RSS)
Find out all about your certification if you provide remote services related to security-related parts of vehicles. For this, you need to apply for at least a SERMI certificate for your company and one employee.

News
Effective date for mandatory SERMI certification postponed
SERMI, the mandatory certification for independent car, body repair and motorhome companies working on software and components related to theft prevention, has postponed its effective date of 1 August 2023 until further notice. SERMI is expected to communicate a new effective date in the second half of 2023.
Kiwa now accredited for SERMI certification
Kiwa is one of the first companies in Europe that is now an accredited inspection body to authorize vehicle workshops according to SERMI (Security-Related Vehicle Repair and Maintenance Information). Soon, SERMI, the new authorization certification for theft and security-related vehicle data - will be introduced in the EU and several of the EU's partner countries (including Norway).
New implementation date for mandatory SERMI certification: April 1, 2024
Important news for independent auto, damage repair and motorhome companies: SERMI certification, mandatory for theft prevention-related software and vehicle parts, takes effect in the Netherlands on April 1, 2024.
