About fire safety products certification and testing 

Kiwa Watermark quality mark certified fire safety products guarantee compliance with the requirements of Dutch and international standards for products used for drinking water distribution. In addition, the products meet the strict hygienic requirements, as set by the Dutch government. Only products that meet all requirements - including an agreed constant quality level - can be certified by Kiwa with the Kiwa Watermark.

The Kiwa Watermark evaluation guidelines include all requirements set by the market and government for products that come into contact with drinking water: both the private, functional requirements and the public, hygienic requirements. 

Fire safety

Fixed firefighting systems. Hose systems: hose reels with semi-rigid hose (BRL-K643)

BRLK643 is relevant to producers or suppliers of these hose systems who wish to profile themselves on the market with products that meet all functional requirements and legal hygienic requirements set by the Dutch government.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRL K643 applies to hose reels with semi-rigid hose that have been designed for firefighting purposes and can be connected to drinking water installations with a maximum water pressure of 1000 kPa and a water temperature of maximum 30ºC.

Semi-rigid hose for fire hose reels in fixed firefighting systems (BRL-K664)

BRLK664 is relevant to producers or suppliers of these systems who wish to profile themselves on the market with products that meet all functional requirements and legal hygienic requirements set by the Dutch government.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRL K664 applies to semi-rigid hoses that have been designed to be used on fire hose reels conform the Kiwa evaluation guideline BRL-K643 (see above on this page). These hose reels can be connected to drinking water installations with a maximum water pressure of 1000 kPa and a water temperature of maximum 30ºC.

The evaluation guideline BRL K664 is a certification scheme for the Kiwa product certificate for semi-rigid hose for fire hose reels in fixed firefighting systems.

Safety assessment of facilities in buildings (BRL-K14015)

BRLK140515 is relevant to housing corporations, homeowners, municipalities and installers.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRL K14015 is intended to certify institutions that perform safety assessments of facilities in buildings and based on this, issue advice on necessary adjustments to those facilities. The facilities within residential buildings for (smoke) gas, water, ventilation, fire and electrical installations are tested according to checklists, based on the applicable safety standards.

Quality-controlled maintenance of pump installations and pumping stations (BRL-K14020)

BRLK14020 is relevant to maintenance companies, municipalities, water authorities and water purification authorities.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRL K14020 is intended to guarantee the quality of the process for assessing the status of and the performance of maintenance on pumping installations and pumping stations. This BRL contains quality requirements and determination methods that relate to the assessment of the status and the efficiency and transparency of the maintenance to be performed, considering technology and safety.

Temporary Drinking Water Installations (BRL-K14036)

BRLK14036 is relevant to installers, event organizers, authorities, municipalities and water companies. Retaining a certified installer gives authorities, event organizers and visitors trust that the drinking water at the venue can be used safely. And with the certificate, installers can distinguish themselves on the market.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRL K14036 concerns the process used by an installer for designing, constructing, operating and managing a temporary drinking water installation.

Subsequently certified installers may, under condition, issue the Kiwa declaration ‘Safe drinking water venue’ for venues under contract. That condition is that the certificate holder is mandated by the organizer to inspect all installations/ equipment connected to his installation and can give compulsory instructions to the owners/ operators thereof, in the interest of drinking water safety at the venue.

Protection systems on mineral surfaces for drinking water application (BRL-K19002)

BRLK19002 is relevant to coating manufacturers, applicators and drinking water companies.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRL K19002 applies to protection systems on mineral surfaces in installations for the production, storage and/ or transport of drinking water. The purpose of the protection system is to protect the mineral surfaces against the influence of water and to prevent migration from mineral surfaces to water.

The protection system can also serve to improve the surface structure or to restore or improve the durability of the concrete construction. Mineral substrates are understood to be concrete, cement-bound and stony substrates.

The evaluation guideline BRL K19002 is a certification scheme for the Kiwa product certificate for protection systems on mineral surfaces for drinking water applications.
