Digital methods for concrete structures
Using radar wave surveys, we can locate reinforcing bars, non-magnetic metals and pipes at depths of up to 80cm. The data is viewed and analyzed as a digital 3D model of the survey area, which can be easily transferred to common design applications. The latest survey equipment allows on-site viewing of the imaged object from a tablet screen using augmented reality.
Ultrasonic testing can be used to examine concrete structures up to 4 meters without breaking the material. The survey can locate potential damage points, voids and cracks as well as structural strength.
Artificial intelligence can predict the lifetime of concrete structures
Kiwa Sweden and technology company Spotscale have signed a partnership agreement to develop future inspection technology. The technology will use artificial intelligence (AI) to predict the service life of concrete structures.
The AI offers the possibility to use high-resolution images taken by drones to map not only very small but also large damages in inspected buildings (such as bridges, dams, power plants and water towers). This technology can be used to monitor and classify millions of individual defects and faults in a way that cannot be achieved by traditional inspection methods.
