Testing for Microwave detectors (EN 50131-2-3)

The EN 50131-2-3 standard is applicable for microwave detectors. This product will be used as part of intrusion alarm systems installed in buildings. The main standard is the EN 50131-2-3 for wired devices and for wireless devices the additional standard EN 50131-5-3 is required. The main standard includes besides requirements also functional tests and tests based on the EMC standard EN 50130-4 and the environmental standard EN 50130-5.

The EN 50131-2-3 includes four security grades and four environmental classes. The purpose of a detector is to emit microwave radiation and analyse returned signals to detect an intruder and to provide the necessary range of signals or messages to be used by the rest of the intrusion alarm system.

The number and scope of these signals or messages will be more comprehensive for systems that are specified at the higher grades.

This European Standard is only concerned with the requirements and tests for the microwave detector. Other types of detector are covered by other documents identified as in EN 50131-2 series.

Manufacturers or distributors of security (intruder of hold-up) products who want to bring such a product on the market.

Only with a certificate it can be proved that the microwave detector is compliant to the standard. Normally a certificate will be issued after the testing has been successfully completed. A certificate for this product provides you market access for the European market.
