Challenges for companies are becoming more and more demanding. From 2023, the Due Diligence Act on corporate due diligence to avoid human rights violations in supply chains will come into force in Germany.

The certification of a supply chain, e.g. according to the We-Care Standard, confirms ongoing monitoring of all stages in the supply chain of a product. From production to refinement, transport to distribution and arrival at the end consumer.

Further, concepts to promote sustainable business practices are being implemented. As part of the European Green Deal, the first package of measures (Fit for 55) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions - by 55 per cent by 2030 compared to 1990 - was presented in July 2021. According to this, European climate neutrality has to be achieved by 2050 at the latest.

Another key measure to achieve European climate neutrality is the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which is due to come into force in January 2024. This directive on non-financial indicators applies to companies based in the EU. Companies must report key figures on environmental impact, social impact and sustainable corporate governance.
