GRASP

GRASP is the acronym for “GLOBALGAP Risk Assessment on Social Practices”. The GRASP module is a tool helping producers to vouch for their compliance with international and national employment legislation. GRASP Assessments are not complete corporate audits, but instead focus on examining the corporate management system implemented by the producer.

The GRASP module (GRASP is the acronym for “GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice”) is a voluntary module consisting of twelve control points and compliance criteria. Only producers who in turn have certification of an Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) and/or Plant Propagation Material (PPM) norm can apply for this.

The GRASP Module is made up of Control points and Compliance Criteria (CPCC) which the producer has to abide by. Given that the GRASP module is voluntary, this does not involve passing or failing the module, but only indicates the level of compliance of each control point on the verification list of the assessment.

The GRASP Module focuses on a review of the basic indicators of potential social risks at the operation. GRASP is applied in order to assess the risk of bad social practices in primary production. This can only be implemented when there is a National Interpretation Guideline for the relevant country. It helps producers to deal with important social matters and to create awareness on the operation.

The process will start by Kiwa registering the producer in the GRASP protocol and their number of workers in the GLOBALGAP database, after accepting the economic estimate. The GRASP assessment is only valid when the completed GRASP Verification List is entered in the GLOBAL.G.A.P database and when the producer has a valid IFA or PPM certification from GLOBALG.A.P.

During the assessment, the control points and the compliance criteria act as guidelines. After appraising each control sub-point, a 5-level valuation will vouch for the producers’ compliance with the control point. Kiwa will enter the GRASP verification list in the GLOBALG.A.P database and after this the receipt for the producer’s assessment is issued. The physical assessment supporting document can only be issued based on the information available at the time in the GLOBALG.A.P. database for this exclusive GLOBALG.A.P. number (GGN). In the case of Option 2, this supporting document for the assessment will also list all the members of the group of producers.
